What is Silvervine?
Silvervine (Actinidia polygama) and catnip (Nepeta cataria) are two different plants. Silvervine's main active compound is nepetalactol (Uenoyama et al., 2021, Science Advances).
What the research says about the leaf
A 2023 study identified dried Silvervine leaf as a suitable scent-enrichment material for cats, and found that air-drying the leaf enhanced cats' response (Uenoyama et al., 2023, iScience). Ours comes from North America and is air-dried at ambient temperature.
Inside the toys
In our plush toys, mostly whole leaves are blended into the soft stuffing, with no sticks and no separate pouch. S, M and L sizes hold 2 g, 3–4 g and 5 g of leaf. Kickers come with a Silvervine option too.
Freshness
We fill in small batches with the newest available harvest and seal promptly after filling. Our own freshness standard is 12 months; past that, we discount the stock and say so.
Will my cat respond?
No herb works for every cat, and we won't promise otherwise. We've noticed some cats show fresh interest when owners switch between catnip and Silvervine.
Between play sessions
If your toy came in a resealable bag, put it back and seal it after play. The compounds behind Silvervine's scent are volatile, so sealing helps the scent last longer.
