There is nothing inside it but more wool. Wet felted, then needle felted by hand into a dense solid body, with no plastic shell, no filling and no glue. That density is what keeps it from flattening or shedding loose fibres after a few weeks of chewing.

Under 4cm, and the uneven shape means it never rolls the same way twice — the path changes on every push, so where it ends up is never quite what your cat expects.
