Feld 1 and an Antibody Treatment for Cat Allergy

There has been research looking at anti-Fel d 1 antibodies in treating cat allergens. Although this is not widely available, you can talk to your doctor about possible treatments to reduce your allergies.

If your nose starts running the second your cat walks in the room, you’ve probably heard of Feld 1, even if you didn’t know its name. It’s the main allergen in cats, and it’s the reason so many cat parents struggle with constant sneezing, itchy eyes, and even asthma.

Traditional allergy treatments like antihistamines or allergy shots don’t always work well for cat allergy, and they come with limits. But a new science-backed approach is showing real promise: using special antibodies that target and neutralize Feld 1 directly.

At Moricat, we love learning about smart solutions that help you and your cat live better together. Here’s what this exciting new research tells us, and what it could mean for future treatment options.

What exactly is Feld 1?

Feld 1 is a protein found in cat dander, and it’s the main trigger for cat allergies.

For people with cat allergies, even tiny amounts of Fel d 1 can cause sneezing, coughing, and in some cases, asthma symptoms.

Reducing Feld 1 is one of the most effective ways to manage cat allergy.

A new kind of treatment: anti–Feld 1 antibodies

Researchers tested a new antibody treatment that targets Feld 1 directly, and the results were promising.

In a study, the effect of anti-Feld 1 antibodies was looked at. They found that this helped with cat allergen symptoms such as those affecting the nose in people who have cat allergies.

Why this is a big deal for cat parents

This new approach could offer a safer, more targeted way to manage cat allergies, without giving up your cat.

Unlike allergy shots, which require multiple doses over months or years, this treatment worked after just one dose. And because it focuses specifically on Feld 1, it avoids some of the safety concerns that come with broader allergy treatments.

While this treatment isn’t widely available yet, it opens the door to future therapies that could help cat lovers keep their pets without suffering through constant symptoms.

What can you do in the meantime?

Until new treatments like this are ready for everyday use, small steps can still make a big difference.

Use a HEPA-filter air purifier to reduce airborne Feld 1 in your home.

Clean often, especially fabric surfaces like couches, rugs, and bedding.

Groom your cat regularly to reduce allergens.

Talk to your doctor about managing your symptoms and staying up to date on future treatment options.

Small changes for you and your cat

At Moricat, we believe in thoughtful, science-backed care that lets you enjoy life with your cat, even if allergies are part of the picture.

You don’t have to suffer in silence or choose between comfort and companionship. With new discoveries and small daily changes, you and your cat can breathe easier together.
