Fit the base once, then click bowties and charms on and off the magnetic snap: how the modular collar works, the first wear, and care.

A collar is the one thing a cat wears every day, and most of what you'd like to change about it, a bow for a photo, a charm for a party, means taking it off and putting it back on. The MoriCat modular collar separates the two: the base stays fitted, and bowties and charms click on and off a magnetic snap on the front. If this collar came as a gift, start with the base: fit it first, then add the look.

What Is a Modular Collar?

The MoriCat modular collar is a collar base plus interchangeable attachments. Every attachment uses the same magnetic snap, so you can change the look without unbuckling the collar.

  • The base — the Buckle base: a PU leather strap with a metal pin buckle, for supervised wear, photos and occasions.
  • The connection — a 1 cm magnetic snap riveted to the front of the strap, with a matching half on every attachment.
  • The attachments — velvet bowties and jewel charms. The MoriCat Purrmone patch has a magnetic back and fits the same snap.

Your gift box holds the Buckle base in the colour and size chosen for your cat, one bowtie and one jewel charm, all in one colour theme. The lid shows the three steps: snap on, swap the style, photo time.

Best Suitable For

  • Dressing up. The Buckle base with a bowtie or a charm, for portraits, holidays and visitors, while you're there to watch.
  • Two looks in one box. The bowtie and the charm swap in seconds on the same snap, so one collar gives two outfits.
  • A gift when you don't know the cat. You choose by colour and size; the fit and the style are decided later, on the cat.
  • A gift that keeps giving. Every MoriCat bowtie and charm fits the same snap, so a later gift builds on this one.

How the System Works

  1. Fit the base. Adjust the strap so two fingers slide flat between the collar and your cat's neck. Check the fit again after the first day, and whenever your cat's weight changes.
  2. Attach a bowtie or charm. Hold the attachment's magnet over the snap on the front of the collar and let it click into place. The collar stays on your cat.
  3. Switch. Pull the attachment forward to lift it off the snap, and click the next one on.
  4. Take it off when you leave. The Buckle base does not release if the collar catches, so it is worn while you are in the room. For the hours your cat is alone, take the collar off. For an everyday collar, see our Breakaway guide.

The first wear

Many cats paw at a new collar for a while. Put it on before a meal or a play session, so there is something better to think about, and keep the first wears short.

Good to know: magnetic attachments usually stay on through head-shaking and normal movement, but they can come off if your cat brushes against a wall. That is one more reason dress-up is for the time you are there.

The Purpose Behind Our Modular Design

  • Only the neck. Cats tend to resist anything that restricts how they move. The modular collar dresses up a cat with a single strap and nothing on the body.
  • Change the look, not the fit. Once the base is fitted, every change happens on the snap at the front; the collar itself stays where it is.
  • One base, every occasion. The same collar goes from a plain weekday to a birthday photo and back, by swapping what's on the snap.

Modular System Overview

  • Buckle base — PU leather (vegan leather: no animal leather), 1.2 cm wide; metal pin buckle and strap keeper; three sizes, 17–22, 22–27 and 26–32 cm; 9–13 g. Supervised wear, photos and occasions. Not for kittens: too heavy for them. The small metal ring holds the strap tail; it is not for a leash or a tag.
  • Velvet bowtie — velvet, on a fabric band with the magnetic snap at the centre back; ten colours. Supervised wear.
  • Jewel charm — a stone set in metal, five styles; the stone is glued into its setting and can come loose. Supervised wear.
  • Purrmone patch — MoriCat's pheromone patch with a magnetic back; fits the same snap. Its own guide covers use and storage.

Cleaning Instructions

  • Buckle base: wipe with a soft, damp cloth; no harsh chemicals.
  • Bowties and charms: wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. To protect the magnets and the finishes, never soak them or machine-wash them.

Safety Information

Buckle base: The Buckle base does not release if the collar catches. It is for supervised wear only. Take it off when your cat is left alone.

Magnets and small parts: Bowties and charms attach by magnet and can come off. The stone in a jewel charm is glued and can come loose. Fit them for supervised wear only, check them before each wear, and keep attachments not in use where your cat cannot reach them. If you believe your cat has swallowed a magnet or a stone, contact a veterinarian immediately.

Purrmone patch: Check that the patch is intact before fitting it. If it leaks or is damaged, dispose of it and use a new one.

One base, many looks, and the same cat underneath.
