What the Purrmone patch is, where it goes, how to start the standard and magnetic versions, and what to do when something's not right.

Does your cat go quiet and flat in the carrier, or cry the whole drive to the vet? A carrier, a car and a clinic have none of the scent a cat leaves at home when it rubs its cheeks on the doorframe and the sofa corner. Purrmone is a small round patch that releases a formula mimicking that facial pheromone, F3, so the scent can go where your cat goes: inside the carrier, or on its collar. Press it once to start it, then put it in place.

What Is Purrmone?

A single-use patch, about the size of a coin, with a sticker back. You press it once to start it and place it where your cat will be. It comes in two versions: the standard patch, for the inside of a carrier, crate or cat bed; and the magnetic patch, which adds a magnet so it clicks onto either MoriCat collar base, and still has the sticker back for the carrier. Each patch waits in its own clear case, and the 5-pack comes in one box.

Why Choose Purrmone

  • Use it on the go. It needs no outlet, so bring it in the car, a hotel or on a flight.
  • Ready when you are. Small enough to keep in your bag until the moment you need it.
  • Nothing to set up. Just press it and place it, with nothing to fill or plug in.

When to Use

  • Vet visits: the clinic waiting room and the time in the exam room.
  • Travel: car rides and short trips with your cat in the carrier.
  • Grooming: salon visits, nail trims and handling appointments.
  • Moving day: new rooms, new scents and a routine turned upside down.

What's Inside

Each patch holds a plant-based formula that mimics your cat's own F3 facial pheromone; the label lists F3 feline pheromone 50%, almond oil 40%, and scent and base oils 10%. Run a finger over the patch and you'll feel small bumps: those are beads filled with the formula. Press the bumps and the beads burst, the formula comes out into a foam layer, and it starts to evaporate.

Directions for Use

Keep each patch in its case until you're ready.

Standard patch: for the carrier

  1. Press the bumps. Press where the cover says "Press to release". Once the beads have burst, you'll notice a scent.
  2. Bend the edge to lift the backing. The backing can be fiddly to pick at with a fingernail. Bend the edge of the patch a little and it lifts on its own, so it peels away easily.
  3. Stick it inside the carrier. Press it down firmly on the inside wall, away from the door and the air holes.

Tip: press it on well the first time. The adhesive is gentle and sticks once; that is why it leaves no sticky mark, and also why a patch that lifts off won't hold again.

Magnetic patch: for the collar, or the carrier

  1. Press the bumps, just like the standard patch.
  2. Click it onto the collar base. It fits either MoriCat collar base.

Want it in the carrier instead? The magnetic patch has a sticker back too: bend the edge to lift the backing and stick it in, as in steps 2 and 3 above.

When you're done

Peel it off. It comes off without a sticky mark on the carrier, car or cat bed. Once pressed, a patch can't be started again, so the next trip gets a fresh one.

Keeping spares

Store unused patches sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

If Something's Not Right

  • It won't stay on the carrier. The adhesive sticks once, so a patch that has lifted off won't hold again. Press the next one down firmly the first time, or, with the magnetic version, click it onto the collar instead.
  • It came off the collar. The magnetic snap can come off. Click it back onto the collar base.
  • It isn't letting out a scent. Run a finger over the bumps. If they're still there, the beads haven't burst yet; press them firmly.

FAQ

  • Can I use Purrmone on a kitten? MoriCat recommends Purrmone for cats 6 months and older, a choice based on the patch, its adhesive and its magnet, not on the formula.
  • Will Purrmone make my cat sleepy? It's a pheromone product, not a sedative: see What's Inside.
  • Is the magnetic version different from the sticker version? Same patch; the magnetic one adds a magnet for the collar.
  • Can I use one patch for multiple cats? For separate carriers, use one patch in each carrier.
  • Can I use Purrmone for flights? It's plug-free. Check your airline's pet product rules first.
  • What if my cat has asthma or another health condition? Ask your vet before use if your cat has a health condition.
  • What if my cat chews or swallows the patch? Remove the patch and contact your veterinarian for advice.
